The Mikhail Gorbachev Award (MGA) is presented annually in the following four categories:
“For the contribution to the development of the culture of an open world” – Glasnost
presented for unique input in the field of contemporary culture, art and media.
“For the contribution to the development of global civilization” – Perestroika
presented for historical achievements which positively influence the processes changing the world.

presented for real achievements in the field of human thought and creation of new technologies.
“For the contribution to the development of civil community“ – New Thinking

These are the universal concepts devised personally by Mikhail Gorbachev to define his global reforms that destroyed the “walls” on the planet and put an end to the Cold War. They have become the themes of the MGA categories to celebrate people who have changed the world for the better.
The nominees and winners in the three main categories of the Mikhail Gorbachev Award – PERESTROIKA, GLASNOST and USKORENIE are chosen by The Award Council by secret ballot (for list of council members click here).
List of nominees for the “New Thinking” category will be announced on 1st February 2012, when anyone from around the globe can place their vote for the winner, via our online voting system on www.mga.tv
